Ash Wednesday Reflection

Read:

Genesis 3; Joel 2:12-17; Psalm 51

Reflection questions:

  1. Take a moment to reflect on Adam and Eve’s fall in the Garden of Eden and sin entering the world.

  2. Ask God to show you in the days and weeks ahead where sin has come between you and the Lord. Pray for an open heart, and a willingness to repent and commit what God shows you to prayer.

  3. Ask God to break your heart for the sin and brokenness in our world. Commit this to prayer and that the hearts of others would turn to Jesus.

  4. What does it mean that God asks you to “rend your heart, not your garments”?

Pray

Father,

You created us, knowing from the beginning as Adam and Eve walked in the Garden with you that they would sin, that sin would become a part of the fabric of our world, that every one of us would sin. Show me where I have put anything above You, where I have not loved You or loved others made in Your image in a way that would honor and glorify You. Break my heart over my own sin and over the sin in this world.

And Father, thank You have always been gracious, compassionate, slow to anger, abounding in love, pursuing me always. Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Amen
